Natsumi Tsuruta
Dancer
Tokyo, Japan
Natsumi Tsuruta is a Japanese dancer born in Tokyo, Japan. She received most of her professional training in Canada at the Victoria Academy of Ballet in Victoria, British Columbia, where she developed a strong foundation in classical ballet while also exploring contemporary and other dance forms. During her training, she was selected among the Top 12 classical dancers at YAGP Seattle in both 2018 and 2019.
Natsumi joined Ballet de Barcelona’s Junior Program in early 2021, gaining the opportunity to train and perform within the professional company environment while continuing to develop her technical and artistic skills. In September 2022, she transitioned from the Junior Program into the professional company, marking an important step in her career and allowing her to continue her development as a full member of Ballet de Barcelona. Since then, she has become one of the company’s most versatile performers, moving confidently between classical, neoclassical, and contemporary repertoire.

Her versatility can be seen in roles such as Ophelia in Chronos, where she explores a more contemporary and dramatic movement language, as well as her work in Giselle, performing as a demi-soloist in the Pas de Paysans and as one of the Corifeos of the Wilis in Act II. She has also performed in Ballet de Barcelona’s productions of Swan Lake and The Nutcracker, further developing her experience within the classical repertoire.
Through her work on stage, Natsumi combines technical clarity with musicality, expressive detail, and a strong ability to adapt to different choreographic languages. Her progression from the Junior Program into the professional company reflects the opportunities the program provides for young dancers to gain first-hand professional experience, develop within a company environment, and prepare for a career on stage.
