Gustavo Amaya is a Venezuelan dancer born in Magdaleno, Aragua, Venezuela. He began his dance training at a young age at the Mery Cortez Academia Integral, while also studying theatre. He continued his professional ballet training at different institutions, graduating at the age of 16. During his formative years, he received several awards in dance competitions and gained professional experience with companies including the Ballet de Teresa Carreño and Ballet de la Mar – Núcleo Nina Novak, performing classical repertoire.
In March 2023, Gustavo joined Ballet de Barcelona as an apprentice following an audition with the company. His progression within the company has been significant, moving from apprentice to corps de ballet and eventually becoming a Soloist. Since joining, he has developed his artistry through a diverse repertoire spanning classical, neoclassical, and contemporary dance.


His work with the company includes productions such as Narcisa, Chronos, and #YOUCHARGEME, allowing him to explore different choreographic languages and develop his versatility as a performer. His ability to combine strong classical technique with physicality and expressive presence has become an important part of his artistic identity.
One of the major highlights of his career with Ballet de Barcelona came in 2026, when he performed Don José in Carmen, in the choreographic version by Jimmy Gamonet. The role represented an important step in his artistic development, requiring both technical strength and dramatic depth, and allowing Gustavo to showcase his stage presence, musicality, and expressive qualities.
Gustavo Amaya continues to establish himself as a committed and expressive artist within Ballet de Barcelona. Known for his strong dramatic presence and emotional intensity on stage, he approaches each role with complete dedication and a deep connection to the character he portrays. His ability to fully immerse himself in each performance allows him to go beyond technical execution, communicating emotion through his movement, musicality, physicality, and powerful stage presence. His journey from his early training in Venezuela to his development as a Soloist reflects a career marked by perseverance, continuous artistic growth, and a genuine dedication to his craft.
