Ballet Master · Choreographer
Havana, Cuba
Leandro José Pérez Sanabria was born in Havana, Cuba, and began his ballet training at the Alejo Carpentier Provincial Ballet School before completing his studies at the Fernando Alonso National Ballet School in 2006. That same year, he joined the Ballet Nacional de Cuba, where he developed an extensive career spanning classical, neoclassical, and contemporary repertoire. Throughout his years with the company, he progressed from the corps de ballet to Soloist, First Soloist, and ultimately Principal Character Dancer in 2012, working with renowned choreographers including Alicia Alonso, Alberto Méndez, and Goyo Montero.
Alongside his career as a performer, Leandro developed a strong commitment to teaching and artistic development. He worked as a ballet teacher at both the Fernando Alonso National Ballet School and the Ballet Nacional de Cuba, gaining experience working with dancers at different stages of their training, from young students to professional artists. His experience as both a performer and educator has shaped his approach to ballet, combining technical precision with a deep understanding of classical repertoire and its methodology.

At Ballet de Barcelona, Leandro serves as Ballet Master and Choreographer, contributing to the artistic development and daily training of the company’s dancers. As a ballet master and répétiteur, he works closely with the dancers in the preparation and rehearsal of repertoire, transmitting the technical, stylistic, and artistic demands of each production.
His work as a choreographer is particularly reflected in Ballet de Barcelona’s production of Giselle, which draws on the stylistic tradition of the Ballet Nacional de Cuba while preserving the original music, story, and essential structure of the classical work. Through this production, Leandro brings his experience and understanding of the Cuban ballet tradition into the company’s repertoire, combining respect for classical heritage with a contemporary stage approach.
Leandro brings to Ballet de Barcelona a wealth of experience developed through decades of professional performance, teaching, rehearsal, and artistic creation. His work with the company reflects a commitment to preserving and transmitting the knowledge of classical ballet while supporting the continued artistic growth of the dancers and contributing to the development of new repertoire.
